LIST: Excellent longform essays about the cruise industry

1. “A Supposedly Fun Thing I’ll Never Do Again,” David Foster Wallace
2. Rebecca Coriam: Lost at Sea,” Jon Ronson

For many Americans spring break is on the horizon. Maybe you have a nice cruise planned. If so, I do not recommend reading these particular essays. I have never been on a cruise myself, because the idea of being trapped on a boat with a schedule of organized activities is deeply terrifying to me. I need to be able to get away at all times. Plus if I have learned anything from Unsolved Mysteries, it is that cruise ships are very haunted.

  1. This is hilarious 🙂 I absolutely loved the Jon Ronson essay, in part because I like anything that helps me in an argument against people who love to talk you up about how amazing cruises are. I’d also forgotten that they’re potentially very haunted. thanks for that too!
